Christo Ruppenthal - "Hot Hawaiian guitar meets Jazz à la Django!"
Christo Ruppenthal has been a professional musician since 2003. He is a band leader, record label owner, and teacher. As a multi-instrumentalist Christo plays Django Reinhardt style "Gypsy Jazz", Western Swing, Trad Jazz guitar, Hawaiian lap steel, and ukulele. With thousands of gigs to his credit he is an avid performer both in his bands and as a sideman.
He has been In the studio for many recording projects. His Hot String Swing Records label releases have charted nationally in the top 20 for Jazz radio airplay and been included in Spotify's official "Hot Club Swing" playlist. Over the years his recordings have been prominently featured as soundtracks in films, television shows, YouTube shorts, and advertisements. His recordings have also been included on numerous compilation releases. Christo has also had numerous opportunities to add his sounds to releases by other bands.
Since the beginning of his music career Christo has had extensive performance experience. Internationally his music has taken him as far away from home as as Bangalore India! His groups have performed with rave reviews in many settings including large music festivals, concert series, performing arts theaters, and night clubs. He is as as comfortable on the festival stage as he is at an intimate living room house concert.
He is currently serving as president of the HSGA - Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association, a worldwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promoting traditional Hawaiian music and the signature sound of Hawaiian steel guitar.
Chirsto has recently released two records under his own name. Antique Aloha is a series of recordings inspired by some of his favorite Hawaiian 78 RPM records from the Golden Age of Hawaiian Music. The second, Café Allongé showcases both his musicianship and arranging skills on his original compositions.
