Weissenborn Style 4 Kona 30s Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar

This circa 1930 Koa wood Weissenborn made Style 4 Kona Hawaiian lap steel guitar is in great shape.

It was my main recording and performing steel guitar since 2014, and has always worked amazingly! This guitar came from Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. Remarkably they had three of these Konas in stock for me to evaluate and pick from at the time. I certainly left there with the best sounding one by far.

The guitar is almost entirely original and even has the original case (in pieces) to go with it. I purchased a well fitting and very sturdy Kona case for this guitar from Bear Creek in 2014. The case has quite a few miles put on it however is structurally very solid. Both cases are included.

One of the tuner gear screws has been replaced and does not match exactly. One of the small screws for the tuners is missing. Neither of these issues has affected tuner functionality in the slightest. I have always understood the hardware to be original.

I had a wonderful K & K pickup put in with the micro jack that fits in the end pin hole. The original end pin is included and this pick up could be easily removed to bring the guitar back to original. It was not modified during the installation other than having the pick up sensors attached.

The guitar is currently set up with a fresh set of strings in a G6 tuning (BDEGBD). I’ve had it in low and high bass G and A tunings, and C6. And I think it always sounds really great.

It has various minor dings, finish checking especially where the forearm rests, pick wear on the fingerboard and upper bout, and other marks due to age and use. There are some spots of finish missing on the back of the neck. The top is nice and flat with no noticeable belly. The bridge seems to be firmly in place.

Please look at all the photos closely for condition. Overall it is a great looking and lovely sounding example of the Weisenborn Kona. You will love this guitar!
